Medical Technologies

Some of these technologies are proven as beneficial to medical professionals and their patients. While other technologies are questionable to whether they are beneficial or not. I am going to discuss three of these technologies and give my opinions on them.

The question I ask here is do they really make the lives of medical professionals easier or are medical professionals spending more time learning how to use these technologies than on patient care?

The first medical technology is Electronic Health Records, also known as EHR. This system allows all patient information to be added into a database and be reviewed by medical professionals. The information that is added into this system includes:

Basic patient information
Past medical history
Patient medications
Lab and x-ray information and results
Notes on patient visit
Patient diagnoses
Vital signs

Benefits of this system include:

Cutting back on paper since all patient information is entered on this database instead of being hand written.
Allows patients to review their records online through the patient portal.
Allows medical professionals to coordinate care by sending patient information to each other.
Saves space that is required to store paper medical records and allows this space to be used in better ways.
Allows 24 hour 7 days a week access.
It saves time and money.

Some cons of this system include:

Not all patients are tech savvy and won’t benefit from this system.
Like with all online systems EHR systems are at risk in regards to cyber hackers and malicious hackers. This means extra diligence is necessary to prevent patient information from being accessed by unauthorized users.
If the system is not updated regularly it can cause issues with the use of the system.
If the internet goes out in a facility than this system is useless.
In my personal opinion I feel this technology is beneficial to medical professionals, as well as patients. It allows patients to be involved in their care by having access to their information instead of feeling they are in the dark and not know what’s going on with their care.

This system also has many advantages for medical professionals. One big one is they have more time to communicate with their patients instead of having to spend a lot of time reviewing and charting patient care. I also feel it prevents clutter that may that happens with paper records and reducing the mistakes or errors of medical professionals.

The second medical technology is Infusion Pumps. Infusion pumps are used to deliver fluids, nutrients, and medications to patients. This device helps deliver controlled amounts of fluids to the patient’s body.

Some of specific uses for an infusion pump include delivery of:

IV fluids if a patient is dehydrated.
Chemotherapy drugs.
Insulin or other hormones.

A Health Care Invention

Chiropractors firmly and honestly believe in the kind of relationship that developed between our nervous system and spine, this does not come as a surprise as we have already mentioned that the major area of focus for the chiropractor is the spine.

Here is the listing of few of the benefits received from Chiropractic health care

1. A great boost for stress reliever

It is a well known fact that too much of stress will always result in a bad outcome. Neither is it good for health nor is it good for our well being. When our nervous system moves out a bit from the track and our skeletal system seems to have shaken off from their proper position, there are very high possibilities that your entire body will feel out of balance as well. This is what will lead to stress in your entire functioning of the body. Here is when the functioning of a Chiropractor comes into use. It helps in balancing that stress and your body is immediately made to come back to its normal balance. Once you are made to adjust to this functioning you will feel much more equipped to manage this stress if it happens to arise again.

2. Posture perfection by Chiropractor usage

By using this chiropractor over a considerable period of time, these chiropractor adjustments can help in the alignments of the spine and brings a noticeable change in your posture. This is distinctly helpful when it comes to aligning the curve on your neck. As soon as you get into your working in an office phase, you have to spend hours after hours in front of a computer. Due to this from a very young age, people are seen to be having neck issues. If you continue a regular and dutifully maintained use of the chiropractor, you can improve your body posture in no time.

3. Moods are taken care of automatically

When with time your body gets adjusted with the working procedure of the chiropractor, your entire body gets balanced. The entire chemistry of the body is brought back on track. A lot of people who have not had the best of luck in chemical balance gain a lot from the chiropractic care. Depression which is a very serious mental condition also sees an immense improvement in the moods of the sufferer. So you see how a chiropractor is creating wonders in your mood related cases as well which are in a way related to the functioning of your entire body.

Thus we provide you with a gist of all that you can mainly expect from the usage of a chiropractor. It is efficient and it is useful and it is interlinked with many a thing’s improvement.

Effects of Caffeine in the Body

Caffeine is a substance that is naturally obtained from plants and it can be artificially produced as well. Lots of plant seeds contain caffeine like kola nut and coffee beans. There are lots of drugs that you can get over the counter which contain caffeine as it has some health benefits when taken as prescribed. It’s not healthy to consume more than 400 milligrams of caffeine on a daily basis as it comes with some nasty consequences.

You will learn more about caffeine, the harmful effects in the body and how it can be avoided. When you consume caffeine on a regular basis your body adjusts to its effects but the degree of tolerance depends on your age, body mass, and other health conditions.

Central Nervous System
Caffeine serves as a stimulant on the nervous system as it get to the brain fast. It makes you more alert and active, keeping you awake and more energetic. A lot of people use it to avoid being drowsy. However, an overdose of caffeine can result in a headache so you need to watch out. Symptoms of withdrawal include anxiety, irritation, and drowsiness.

Caffeine gets to your brain quickly and also serves as a central nervous system stimulant in the body. The most noticeable effect is alertness. It can make you feel more awake and less tired or likely to sleep, so it’s a common ingredient in medications to treat drowsiness.
Although there is common knowledge of drinking coffee to recover from the negative hangover of too much alcohol, caffeine doesn’t actually help your body process alcohol any faster.

If you’re not used to the substance, then caffeine can make you extremely nervous especially when taken in large quantity. If you have an anxiety disorder or emotional disturbance, caffeine may make it worse. Furthermore, it’s not ideal for people who experience insomnia.

Digestive and Excretory Systems
Withdrawal from caffeine can cause nausea and vomiting. The symptoms of caffeine overdose include diarrhea, excessive thirst, and increased urination.

Caffeine increases the acid content in your stomach and results to stomach upset or diarrhea. Withdrawal symptoms include nausea, while overdose symptoms include diarrhea, increase in urination and thirst.

Caffeine can increase the blood pressure as it accelerates the heartbeat. An overdose can result to irregular heartbeat and other heart related issues.

Osteoporosis: When there is an overdose of caffeine in the body it affects the bones as the substance is absorbed by the body and it interferes with the metabolism of calcium.

Reproductive system: Pregnant women need to be cautious when taking caffeine as it could increase the heartbeat of the baby. An overdose can reduce the growth of the baby in the womb and increase the incidence of miscarriage.

It is important to always confirm from your doctor if consumption of caffeine is good for your health to avoid any complications.

When a little caffeine is taken it has little or no side effects so the amount of the substance consumed determines the outcome.

Killer Foods

Their Congress has passed a bill that makes it against the law to label foods on the market shelves as being a product of genetically modified organisms. The debate was that, given the fact of an overwhelming evidence that genetically modified foods are harmful to humans, and government insistence that only genetically modified foods are the best for the country, every food that contains GMO should be labeled so that Americans have a choice in deciding whether to buy the GMF or the naturally produced foods. In fact, in recent times, there has been several recalls of shelf foods due to the fact that they were deemed to have used undeclared chemicals in their production.

The government has been at war with the farmers who produce and sell directly to consumers without resort to genetics, with the accusation that their foods are contaminated with the Salmonella species of bacteria. Salmonella is the main causative agent for diarrhea. For example, American federal and state regulators are seeking legal sanctions against farmers in Maine, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and California, among others. These sanctions include injunctions, fines, and even prison sentences for farmers who fail to join the genetic bandwagon.

Genetic modification of foods started in the nineteen eighties. The biotechnology giant Monsanto began to genetically alter corn to withstand its activities in trying to round up their weed clearing agenda-or herbicide roundup, as it was generally referred to. The goal was to eradicate weeds but not crops and resist a corn pest called the corn borer. These small changes in the Deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, the building blocks of proteins in the body, of the corn are expressed by the plant as proteins. Those proteins act as allergens, provoking a disorder marked by the overproduction of a type of white blood cell called an eosinophil.

The U.S. government started approving GMO corn and soybeans for sale in the mid-1990s, and today, 88% of corn, and 93% of soybeans, are the transgenic varieties. According to my findings, due to cross-pollination via winds, birds, and bees, there’s no such thing anymore as a GMO-free corn crop in the U.S. “It’s almost impossible to find a corn source in the United States that doesn’t have the [protein] in it,” Dr. Mansman, an allergist who works in a Virginia hospital, told an American Magazine. Then, participants at the 10th anniversary of African Agricultural Technology Foundation, AATF seminar say Nigeria’s dream of achieving food sufficiency in 2015 will be a mirage, unless the country adopts biotechnology in the agricultural sector. Even Olusola Saraki, a senator and chairman senate committee on environment and ecology, who is currently the Senate President, decried the delay in signing the bill into law.

A Food To Prevent Bad Cholesterol

Many consumers do not consider healthy foods in their everyday meal. People tend to eat many fatty foods. It is because they’re delicious. Not only delicious, they are easy to find near groceries and markets. But many of those got bad cholesterol.

The students researched about heart disease. Throughout the study, they found out that there is a nutrient called Bioflavonoid. Bioflavonoid is a vitamin that has a large class of antioxidants. Many researchers believe that dietary intake of it is beneficial. Beneficial, that is, for blood vessel health and protection against heart disease. It also gives vitamin C and also an active ingredient in many herbal remedies.

Not all people in the world can buy medicines. Out of poverty, poor people cannot buy medicines for themselves. That’s why the students researched and found a way. They wanted to see a thing that is useless after it’s used or eaten. They also wanted to see if there is Bioflavonoid in it. They searched until they found out about mango peelings. Mangoes are easy to find. Many people eat mangoes. But mangoes are not wholly eaten. People throw out every peeling after they eat the inside. That is the reason why they researched more about mango peelings. After so many experiments with the help of teachers and mentors, the results came. Presented to other researchers national, they told them it’s positive. Mango peelings have the Bioflavonoid everyone needs. It may be not of good taste, but it is easy to get. It may help the poor people from expensive medicines. It may help reduce the risk of heart disease.

This research is now studied among other researchers in the Philippines. The students hope that this will become a great help among other people, especially to those who are in need.

A useful idea now comes to our mind. Not all garbage in the eyes of man is useless. Like those of recyclable garbage, mango peelings are one of them. People throw garbage, not knowing they are useful in the future. Useful that those mango peelings can fight to prevent bad cholesterol. Prevent bad cholesterol to prevent heart diseases. This is a great opportunity for poor people to get. Rather than buying expensive medicines, they can eat mango peelings. It is more convenient for them. But whether you are rich or poor, remember, to not always rely on mango peelings, you need control also. Control of what you need to do with lots of exercise, proper diet, and mango peeling. But indeed, mango peelings are a good food to prevent bad cholesterol.

Calcium Needs In All Stages Of Life

That can make it more difficult to stay active while also creating a higher risk of fractures and osteoporosis. A person’s bone density will generally reach its peak at roughly age 30, and then begin to fade after that. Adequate daily intake can help maintain proper bone density and help prevent osteoporosis – which creates porous and fragile bones. It makes up about three percent of the earth’s crust and is a basic component of most animals and plants. Eating a diet rich in calcium helps to restore it to the bones; supplements can help as well.

Why is calcium necessary?

It is known mostly for its role in building and maintaining strong bones and teeth, but it is also required for proper functioning of the heart, muscles and nervous system. It plays a role in maintaining normal blood pressure, regulating blood clotting. It is also associated with relieving mood swings, food cravings, and decreasing the pain, tenderness and bloating associated with premenstrual syndrome.

What are the deficiency signs?

Deficiency symptoms (also known as hypocalcemia) range from minor – numbness or tingling of the fingers, muscle cramps, lethargy and poor appetite – to more severe, including mental confusion, skeletal malformations, dermatitis, and in infants, delayed development. Illnesses such as osteoporosis (brittle, thin, porous bones that easily break) and rickets are also associated with a deficiency.

How much, and what kind, does an adult need?

If vitamin D levels are optimal, most adults should be able to meet their daily calcium needs via a varied diet. When individuals are unable to get enough of it through a diet or for those who may need more than the recommended daily allowance, supplements can help. Doctors recommends women supplement with 500 to 700 mg of calcium citrate in two divided doses taken with meals for a total of 1,000-1,200 mg a day from all sources.

How much does a child need?

The normal daily recommended intake for children is as follows: infants through three years of age is 400-800 mg; children between 4 and 10 years of age is 800 mg; adolescent males is 800-1,200 mg; and adolescent females is 800-1,200 mg daily.
How do you get enough from foods?

An abundant source of this mineral in the American diet is dairy products – two glasses of milk per day provide 1,000-1,200 mg. If you choose to get via dairy products – and this is not essential, as there are many other calcium-rich foods – make sure you use only hormone-free, organic dairy products to reduce your exposure to the antibiotics and hormones found in many dairy products.

Are there any risks associated with too much?

Its supplements can be constipating, and should be balanced with magnesium as discussed above. Excessive amounts in the blood may have negative effects, including nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and increased urination. More serious complications include kidney toxicity, confusion, and irregular heart rhythm.

Who should we take it as supplements?

It is an important mineral for the human body. It helps build and protect your teeth and bones. Getting enough of it over your lifetime can help prevent osteoporosis. Most people get it through their normal diet. Dairy foods and leafy green vegetables have high levels of calcium. Your health care provider will tell you if you need to take extra dose id required.

Sugar In Fruit

That’s because the body digests fructose slower than it does sucrose or table sugar. Because of the slower digestion, fructose doesn’t cause the same high glycemic swings as other types of sugars. In 2008, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition advised diabetics to use fructose instead of sucrose based on research studies.

Few fruits contain enough sugar to make them bad for you.

Consider this a 20-ounce bottle of soda contains about 225 calories, 60 grams of added sugar, (usually high-fructose corn syrup), and few nutrients. On the other hand, a cup of strawberries has 50 to 60 calories, about 7 grams of natural fructose, 3 grams of fiber, and loads of vitamin C and minerals — all good for you.

But you do have to watch which fructose you are getting. There is natural fructose and high-fructose corn syrup. The latter is not natural and will cause your blood sugar to spike. This is something you also have to watch out for when buying canned fruit. Much of it is packed in that high-fructose corn syrup. If it doesn’t say packed in natural juices, buy your fruit either fresh or frozen instead.

You still have to keep track of how much sugar you’re consuming, even if it’s largely fructose containing fruits. The American Heart Association recommends up to 24 grams of sugar per day for females and 36 grams for men. But you can easily exceed that if you don’t make the right selections. For example, two cups of sliced bananas has 36 grams of sugar by itself. If you add in the sugar you are getting from the rest of your food, you are probably far in excess of what you should be eating each day.

Why is excess sugar bad for you? Obviously, as we’ve known since elementary school, it can cause tooth decay. But it also causes weight gain and increases the triglycerides in your blood stream. That has been shown to increase your risk for high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke.

Strawberries, bananas, oranges, kiwi… the healthy list goes on and on. Fruit is touted as a super-healthy snack option, but while the fiber and other nutrients found in fruit are a great part of any diet, many varieties can also be very high in sugar. Too much sugar, regardless of where it comes from, can have some serious negative effects. (Yes, even sugar from fruit if you eat too much of it!) Does this mean you’re not even safe in the produce aisle? Well, you’re definitely safer. But it might be smart to limit your fruit-based sugar consumption.

Tips, Tricks and Essential Facts

While a good digestive system has a positive impact on the overall functioning of the body, the reverse is equally true. There are several ways in which poor digestion can throw your system out of gear and this in itself should provide sufficient motivation for you to learn how to improve digestion.

Poor Digestion – Causes and Effects

Digestion is described as being poor if it is slow and this has two-fold implications. Firstly, the body is unable to absorb nutrients from the food in quantities that it should, eventually leading to deficiency within the body. Secondly, food left undigested in the stomach for longer duration soon becomes a breeding platform for harmful bacteria which in turn can lead to several illnesses.

If ignored over a period of time, poor digestion assumes a chronic nature and can lead to problems like fatigue, constipation, bloating and even allergies. But what causes digestion to slow down? Some factors that contribute towards poor functioning of your digestive system are –

· Eating habits – Living in an era which is dominated by fast foods and processed foods has its repercussions in form of inefficient digestion. On being constantly bombarded with excess sugar, salt and unhealthy oils your digestive system has little choice but to slow down.

· Lack of exercise – Given the sedentary nature of contemporary lifestyle, most people do not indulge in as much physical exercise as they should. This causes their metabolism to slow down which in turn has an adverse impact on digestion.

· Insufficient water and fiber intake – Water is the best catalyst for your digestive system in addition to being the ideal cleansing agent. From this it draws that drinking insufficient water would interfere with proper breakdown of food and also flushing out of toxins. Likewise, not consuming fiber in sufficient quantities has been found to lead to constipation which is indicative of poor digestive health.

Ways of Improving Digestion

An ideal digestive cycle is defined by four Rs’, namely remove-repair-restore-replace. Removal entails flushing out of toxins from within the body followed by repairing of tissue and digestive track. Next, you must try to restore digestive health by including probiotics and fiber in your diet and making it a point to drink water in sufficient quantities. Having restored it, further improving your digestive system entails replacing unhealthy food groups with organic and healthy choices.

How About Using Digestive Health Supplements?

Diet and lifestyle changes notwithstanding, another way by which you can improve digestive health entails using digestive supplements, preferably those that are based on natural elements. There are indeed natural ingredients, like licorice, chamomile, peppermint and ginger that are capable not just of sorting out your digestive problems but also improving the overall condition of your digestive system. Mint and cinnamon are other natural products that soothe your digestive system and hence are recommended for improving digestion.  All you need to do consume a teaspoon or two with a glass of hot water for improving digestion and enjoy the benefits without any fear of side effects.

Final Word

Natural digestive supplements are based on the premise that the best way to restore good health is for the body to be as close to its original mechanism as possible. Combine this with the fact that digestion is one of the most important processes that can ensure good health for many long years to come. So, to use one to achieve the other does seem to be the logical path to take to enjoy long-term benefits.

A Natural Foundation for a Healthy Mind

In my own personal life, I have fallen prey to a belief that I could “handle” stress regardless of the situation. I found myself to be a decent multitasker and prided myself on always being like a straight line that is never too far up or down. With this, I found myself adding stresses to my life often that were very much unnecessary and without benefit. I could handle it.I found myself with 7 health food stores, 3 wellness clinics, a natural products manufacturing company, 4 homes, two kids, a wife, and traveling around 1500 miles per week not including flights and international travel. I was on the cover of magazines, writing articles, doing radio shows, and was speaking for groups and often never knew at the start of a day where I would end up by the end of the day. I would wake in the morning and need a couple of minutes to identify where I was even waking up.

I once fell asleep at the wheel of a 4×4 Ford Excursion Diesel while driving down the road, in a town, WHILE DOING A RADIO SHOW ON THE PHONE! I trusted people that I shouldn’t have, was not there many nights when my girls were laying down to sleep, and woke many nights wondering what I was doing and why. I knew that the message that I was teaching was important, however, the message was all but slipping away from my own life.

I had car accidents that were near fatal, once being knocked unconscious, upside down in a sports car, laying in the bottom of a ravine in North Georgia, in the woods at 3 in the morning. I was covered in blood, upside down, and fumbling around for guess what? My cell phone. It had been thrown 35 feet into the woods. Once I kicked my way out of the car that was burning, I got my phone and climbed the ravine to call for help.
Needless to say, it was at this time that I was finally admitting that I needed to reevaluate my life, that I was not indestructible, and that I by myself could not manage everything on my own and by myself. It was time for a dramatic change.
The interesting thing is that around 20 years prior to this life changing event, I had been handed over a formula that was available to help me. As a young teen, I met an herbalist who lived only miles from my school, but who was internationally renowned as one of the world’s top folk herbalists.
